Things to do

There are plenty of walks straight from your door to explore the surrounding countryside. Walk for miles not seeing a soul and just listen to the sound of birdsong and Buzzards and Red Kites circling above. Take an expedition off to find the stone circles on the hill side above or just take off for the day to explore the surrounding area.

Fronlwyd is right in the middle of a beautiful unspoilt valley that is a tributary to the river Dyfi, a world famous salmon river and internationally renowned 'biosphere' for flauna and flora. there is hill walking from our door, at the head of the valley is the sources of the rivers Severn and Wye with their respective long distance footpaths beginning here.

A ten minute drive away is the Hafren forest which has miles of walking and cycle tracks through it and there is sailing fifteen minutes away at Llyn Cllewedog.

Depending on how adventurous you want to get you go pony trekking on the beach at Borth or go trekking only 15 minutes from our door, Canadian canoe down the Dyfi river, kayaking at the Welsh national kayaking centre near Llangollen and of course Snowdownia is on our doorstep - my favourite mountain to walk is cader idris which is the second highest peak in Wales but is just as spectacular as Snowdon with the added benefit being without the crowds - it's about half an hour from Fronlwyd.

The area is famous for mountain biking and Machnylleth, 20 minutes away, has four downhill trails that will challenge any rider.

A little further afield is go-ape and also the longest zip wire in Europe, which is something like a mile long! Several guests have been on this and said that it was a great experience.

Also rave reviews continue for the underground caves 'Bounce Below'. If this is all a bit too 'extreme' there is stacks to other things to do that is more in keeping with the tourist scene, castles a plenty, narrow gauge railways, art galleries etc There is plenty of space for bikes at Fronlwyd with a garage to lock them up in and pressure washer available.

There is so much to do around here!

Bradnant Equestrian Centre is only 15 minutes away from us and is a perfect place for all ages and abilities to horseride, they also tailor lessons according to abilities, you can take one of their courses during your stay or check out their pony days.  Carreg Dressage is also 15 minutes away towards Machynlleth.

The famous Glyndwrs Way is on our doorstep and has some wonderful stretches you can ride from our doorstep.

British commercial whitewater rafting began on the River Tryweyrn, an Olympic-grade rollercoaster of Grade 3-4 rapids in Snowdonia.

Only an hour away from fronlwyd, the National White Water Centre, home of white water rafting and kayaking in the UK is a truly wild mountain river, the Tryweryn's water levels are dam-controlled so it’s rapids still thunder throughout the summer.  Unlike any other UK venue for white water rafting at the National White Water Centre there is no need to compromise; enjoy thrilling white water, reliable river conditions and a beautiful natural environment!

Apart from the obvious choices of Mount Snowdon and Cadair Idris in the Snowdonian National Park, there are some amazing walks her in the lesser known Cambrian Mountains.

If you don't fancy venturing too far and just want to take it easy, from our doorstep there are many walks, we have cards you can follow that specifies difficulty rating and time.  We have Stone Circles to explore on the hill above us, a nice morning walk or take off for the day to

Then there's Glyndwyrs way where you can walk sections of the 135 Mile National Trail before returning to our traditional welsh long house or bell tents, there is a great write up here from 'Rambling Man' well worth reading with lots of pictures so you have a good idea what to expect and help plan.
